DESCRIPTION:The success of a Web API design completely depends on how quick
ly developers can get up to speed and start using your API. What are the s
tandards and best practices to consider when designing a great Web API. Yo
u have to get the design right first\, because design communicates how you
r API will be used. Learn how to design for the optimal benefit of the App
Developer. Get an overview of the presentational State Transfer (REST) ar
chitectural style for distributed hypermedia and how to use it correctly w
ith Web API. How do we do things correctly so that our API is suited well
for Desktop\, Mobile and Future Clients? Can we run it in Azure? (yes!) Th
e Sample Project demonstrated is a .Net Web API using RavenDB as the backe
nd without Entity Framework. We will dig deep into the Code and see firsth
and what tools are beneficial in the design and API development process as
well as the Goodness and the Gotchas around Asp.Net MVC 4 WebAPI and how
you can be productive quickly.\n\nThese samples are being released soon as

DESCRIPTION:Building the Real-time Web with SignalR\nwith Ely Lucas\, Senio
r Software Developer\n\nWhat is ASP.NET SignalR?\n SignalR is an offic
ially supported open source library from the ASP.Net team that makes it in
credibly simple for you to add real-time web functionality to your applica
tions. What is &quot\;real-time web&quot\; functionality? It's the ability
to have your server-side code push content to your connected clients as i
 t happens\, in real-time!\n You may have heard of WebSockets\, a new H
TML5 API that enables bi-directional communication between the browser and
server. SignalR will use WebSockets under the covers when it's available\
, and gracefully fallback to other techniques and technologies when it isn
't\, while your application code stays the same.\n\nWhat can you do with A
SP.NET SignalR?\n SignalR can be used to add any sort of &quot\;real-t
ime&quot\; web functionality to your ASP.NET application. While chat is of
ten used as an example\, you can do a whole lot more. Any time a user refr
eshes a web page to see new data\, or the page implements Ajax long pollin
g to retrieve new data\, then these are candidates for using SignalR.\n
It also enables completely new types of applications\, that require high
frequency updates from the server\, e.g. real-time gaming. For a great ex
ample of this see the ShootR game.\n Think about the many uses -- this
provides you with a great new ability!\n\nContact: Chris Wallace\n\nEvent

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our July meeting when Wyn Van Devanter will
present: Automated Acceptance Testing (AAT) in .NET.\nDescription \n\n Bus
iness-driven development (BDD) with executable specifications immensely he
lps bridge the gap between requirements the business can see\, and what th
e system is actually doing. It also automates a key part of the test/QA pr
ocess. Additionally\, it can help developers think through the needed func
tionality\, when they start with plain english specifications that are exe
cutable.\nWe'll walk through a practical implementation of BDD in .NET\, u
sing SpecFlow for executing the business requirements from the BA (in Gher
kin)\, a unit test framework to provide the tests SpecFlow can run\, and S
elenium WebDriver and Phantom.js to run tests in the browser. We'll use t
he page object pattern for the actual tests\, so each page's tests are nea
tly encapsulated in an object for that page. You should come away with a c
lear idea of how to implement BDD on your project\, in an organized fashio
n with the page object pattern. We'll also briefly touch on other possible
frameworks for BDD\, notably client-side options.\nIf there is time\, we
will touch on reusing steps in the business requirements\, and logistics o
f how business analysts get the specifications into the solution so they c
an be executed.\nBio \n\n Wyn is currently a senior consultant/.NET develo
