Barwick

This event will be held on: 2/10/2010 at 5:30 PM, Central Time

Address: 611 Saint Joseph Avenue, Conferenc Room G
City: Marshfield
State: WI
Zip Code: 54449

Description:
Business Intelligence (BI) has become increasingly important in today's marketplace, from the smallest businesses up to the largest firms. Understanding what makes good BI starts with proper foundations.

Those foundations are best understood by asking “What is BI?” Working through a few common approaches and finishing by diving into building a real BI solution. We'll use Microsoft technologies to build many of the common BI foundational components including a warehouse, an ETL process, an OLAP database with dimensions and a cube and Excel Pivot Tables.

Another important foundation of a successful BI project is the organization of the project collateral during the development lifecycle. This session will cover the usage of Visual Studio 2008, building up all of the BI collateral into one VS2008 solution.

Be prepared to be exposed to the following technologies in this session: SQL Server 2008 database engine, SQL Server Analysis Services 2008, SQL Server Integration Services 2008, SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, Visual Studio for Database Professionals GDR R2 (Data Dude), Business Intelligence Development Studio 2008 and Excel 2007 with Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts

Christopher J. Barwick (Chris) is the Enterprise Data Analytics Team Lead for Big Hammer, a division of Edgenet. There he manages data for Fortune 500 clients and oversees many multi-terabyte projects in both SQL 2005 and SQL 2008.

Because of these high profile projects and his passion for digging into new technologies, he is often engaged in early adopter programs with Microsoft. From a recent deep dive training at Microsoft on StreamInsight, a new product in SQL Server 2008 R2, to being an early adopter of the very first beta of the .NET Framework, Chris went on to start and run the largest F# Forum site http://www.hubfs.net. (Microsoft's F# Developer Center on MSDN actually uses his site for their forums! http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/fsharp/de

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>44.6763960</geo:lat><geo:long>-90.1800350</geo:long><dc:coverage>WI</dc:coverage>

Scratching the surface with MonoTouch

This event will be held on: 2/10/2010 at 6:00 PM, Central Time

Address: 233 South Wacker Dr, Suite 750
City: Chicago
State: IL
Zip Code: 60030

Description:
Did you know you can develop iPhone (and soon iPad) applications using C#, WCF and LINQ? Visual Studio 2010 brings languages and language paradigms into the limelight. C# 4.0’s major new feature is support for dynamic language concepts. F# brings functional programming into the mainstream in Visual Studio. IronPython and IronRuby are major offerings Microsoft has for dynamic language enthusiasts.
In this presentation, Markus Egger takes a look at language developments in Visual Studio, then discusses dynamic languages in particular, and finally puts a major focus on C# 4.0’s dynamic features.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>29.7460240</geo:lat><geo:long>-95.5583500</geo:long><dc:coverage>TX</dc:coverage>

2010 Virtualization Deep Dive

This event will be held on: 2/12/2010 at 7:30 AM, Eastern Time

Address: 201 Jones Road; MPR-A
City: Waltham
State: MA
Zip Code: 02451

Description:
2nd Annual Virtualization Deep Dive. You can sign up now at http://powershellgroup.org/atlanta.ga.

Our first meeting will be a script club.

What is a script club you ask? You bring an idea for a script, and ask your fellow PowerShell users for help getting the script written. If it’s PowerShell, its covered — just bear in mind that it may be hard to test things like Exchange scripts or Active Directory management scripts unless you have a nice virtual lab on your laptop.

What are the Rules of Script Club?

1.	You always talk about script club
2.	You always talk about script club
3.	If someone asks for help, and you can help, you help
4.	Two people help one person at one time
5.	One module per person per night
6.	All scripts, all PowerShell
7.	Scripts will be as short as they can be
8.	If this is your first time at Script Club, You have to script!

Please RSVP so we can get a head count (especially if you want Pizza and come ready to pitch in a few dollars to help pay for the pizza.)!

Our meeting will be held at the New Horizon’s training center at 211 Perimeter Center Parkway, Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30346. Click here for directions and a map.

We currently do not have access to the site’s computers so bring your laptop if you can.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>33.9255570</geo:lat><geo:long>-84.3453455</geo:long><dc:coverage>GA</dc:coverage>

Microsoft Developer Dinner for Partners: Parallel Computing for Managed Developers

This event will be held on: 2/16/2010 at 6:00 PM, Eastern Time

Address: 1125 Sanctuary Pkwy., Suite 300
City: Alpharetta
State: GA
Zip Code: 30009

Description:
During this developer dinner we will focus on understanding the importance of the “parallel computing shift” and also the technologies introduced in .NET 4 that are easing this transition. While that's not the most delicate way of putting it, anyone who's struggled with getting things done on a browser with pure JavaScript will probably sympathize. jQuery is an enormously popular library that indeed makes it easier to find, select, and manipulate client-side elements in your web-based applications, as well as providing support for common AJAX operations, animation, and a rich plug-in ecosystem.

jQuery works with most any application using HTML markup for its UI, and can be integrated with both ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC applications, for which jQuery support is provided out of the box with new MVC projects. And with jQueryUI, you can take advantage of common widgets to support tabbed and accordion UIs, and perform tasks such as drag and drop.

In this session, we'll walk through the basics of jQuery, show how jQuery and ASP.NET can work together, and show off how you can combine ASP.NET databinding and jQuery UI to create rich interfaces with a minimum of fuss.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>38.0276419</geo:lat><geo:long>-78.4825516</geo:long><dc:coverage>VA</dc:coverage>

Monthly Meeting

This event will be held on: 2/18/2010 at 6:00 PM, Central Time

Address: 5801 E. 41st Street, Suite 504
City: Tulsa
State: OK
Zip Code: 74135

Description:
Our February meeting will be covering Exchange 2010 with Food and drinks provided as well as door prizes.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>36.1465905</geo:lat><geo:long>-95.9926261</geo:long><dc:coverage>OK</dc:coverage>

Tampa PowerShell User Group Kickoff

This event will be held on: 2/18/2010 at 6:30 PM, Eastern Time

Address: 5426 Bay Center Dr., Suite 700
City: Tampa
State: FL
Zip Code: 33609

Description:
The Tampa PowerShell User Group is open to anyone interested in learning and using PowerShell. Microsoft Surface has shown the potential of multi-touch NUIs to uniquely engage users, and multi-touch tablets and displays are becoming more and more common. This talk is focused on how you can create multi-touch NUIs for these devices. You will learn the difference between manipulations and gestures, when to use each, and how to implement specific NUI design concepts with both Silverlight and the WPF 4 Touch API. The differences between the Silverlight and WPF 4 Touch APIs will be highlighted. You will hear about the roles of the Surface Toolkit for Windows Touch and the Microsoft Surface Manipulations and Inertia Sample for Silverlight and how you can use them to jump-start your applications. The open-source multi-touch Bing Maps 3-D WPF control, InfoStrat.VE, will also be demonstrated. If you are interested in rich, engaging multi-touch interfaces for the web or client, then you need to attend this talk!

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>38.9549570</geo:lat><geo:long>-77.3582140</geo:long><dc:coverage>VA</dc:coverage>

TechNet Events Presents: Windows Azure, Hyper-V and Windows 7 Deployment

This event will be held on: 2/25/2010 at 8:30 AM, Eastern Time

Address: 200 Hutchinson Ave
City: Columbus
State: OH
Zip Code: 43235

Description:
Join your local TechNet Events team for a lively tour of the latest tools and resources for IT Pros. This isn’t about learning the basics of Silverlight or WPF, rather, this conference will help you understand how to build software that is better designed, more maintainable, and more testable.
We’ll spend the morning on fundamentals around object-oriented programming, the SOLID principles and a few other important skills.
The afternoon will focus on hands-on practice with the skills, since it isn’t enough to just watch someone talk about them. A programmers problem (think like an assignment in a CS class in college) will be given. Those that are attending the WEBCAST will participate in the same way via Live Meeting, writing the code on their laptop to solve the problems.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

MSDN Events Presents: Software Engineering 101 - LIVE Event

This event will be held on: 2/27/2010 at 8:00 AM, Central Time

Address: 2555 Meridian Blvd.
City: Franklin
State: TN
Zip Code: 37067

Description:
This is a one-day, FREE event focused on core skills that modern developers need to have to be successful today. The convergence of a number of trends is accelerating the changes that Web 2.0 has made on media, society and business. The rise of social tools -- like social networks and social media -- has had enormous impacts, already. Recently, the emergence of microstreaming applications -- like Twitter and Facebook -- have moved us into a real-time web, which is potentially just as disruptive an innovation as the social web has been to date. This is true of Web based communication, but also is reaching into older media – like newspapers and television -- and reworking the nature of broadcast. But these trends, in themselves important, are just the start of a major shift in how a new real-time Web will operate, the benefits it will offer, and how we will perceive it. And this is happening as a new generation of always-on, web-enabled mobile devices -- iPad, iPhone, Android, and others -- is rolling out. This convergence is leading to a whole new web, which poses great opportunities and challenges for us all.

Stowe Boyd, is a consultant, writer, and speaker, perhaps best known for his writing at /Message. He advised AIIM on the development of the Enterprise 2.0 training program. Stowe is known internationally as an authority on social tools and their impact on media, business, and society. He has spoken widely on the social revolution on the Web at venues such as Web 2.0. Enterprise 2.0, Next, Mesh, Reboot, 140 Characters, Lift, Les Blogs, Shift, Futuresonic, Defrag, Supernova, and many others.

- Introduction to PRISM (Chris Platt) - Prism is the Microsoft Code Name used for their new updated "Composite Client Application Framework" programming platform. The Composite Client Application Framework is designed to help you more easily build modular Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight client applications. These types of applications typically feature multiple screens, rich, flexible user interaction and data visualization, and role-determined behavior. They are "built to last" and "built for change." This means that the application's expected lifetime is measured in years and that it will change in response to new, unforeseen requirements. This application may start small and over time evolve into a composite client. Composite applications use loosely coupled, independently evolvable pieces that work together in the overall application. In this talk we will discuss and demonstrate the following:

Overview and Objectives of the framework

The inclusion of many software patterns including MVVM, Dependency Injection, Singletons, Eventing/Delegation and many more.

PRISM component stack including Unity Container, Bootstrapper, Module Loader, Region Management ...

Data Binding and the problems of WPF routed commands

Intermodule vs. Intramodule communication

Testing

Well, we can never have too much free learning (what we in the tech field call “fun”), so reserve Saturday, March 6, 2010 to attend the 4th (somewhat) annual NYC Code Camp, from 8:00 AM until 6:30 PM! It will take place at the Manhattan Microsoft office on 6th Avenue, across the street from Radio City Music Hall.

There is no city in the world with the energy and the promise of opportunity than Manhattan, so we welcome everyone in the area to join us for the buzz such an event in our great city offers.

Code Camps are "grass roots" mini application platform developer conferences, free of charge to attendees and open to presenters of all stripes and experience.

This is an all-day event with refreshments served, including a developer's "power lunch" (pizza and soda).

This event is being supported by Microsoft but driven by the community: user group activists, developer "influentials", and enthusiastic volunteers.

Community Megaphone Events Feed

<geo:lat>40.7609761</geo:lat><geo:long>-73.9794280</geo:long><dc:coverage>NY</dc:coverage>

TechNet Events Presents: Windows Azure, Hyper-V and Windows 7 Deployment

This event will be held on: 3/9/2010 at 8:30 AM, Central Time

Address: 9420 Research Blvd
City: Austin
State: TX
Zip Code: 78759

Description:
Join your local TechNet Events team for a lively tour of the latest tools and resources for IT Pros. What table is the largest? How do you get a list of user’s properties? How many visitors came to my site yesterday?

This presentation will focus on the various T-SQL commands that can help improve the day-to-day functionality of a DotNetNuke site. Using standard and free modules, the session will demonstrate helpful T-SQL queries that will answer common operational questions.

Updating your site and wanting to determine what 3rd party modules are located on what pages? This session will help you develop reports to ensure your upgrades deliver few surprises.

The presentation will also help the attendees understand some of the standard data relationships in a DotNetNuke database so that they can use the tools and techniques discussed to develop T-SQL queries of their own.
