Business Intelligence (BI) has become increasingly important in today's marketplace, from the smallest businesses up to the largest firms. Understanding what makes good BI starts with proper foundations. Those foundations are best understood by asking “What is BI?” Working through a few common approaches and finishing by diving into building a real BI solution. We'll use Microsoft technologies to build many of the common BI foundational components including a warehouse, an ETL process, an OLAP database with dimensions and a cube and Excel Pivot Tables. It has been said of jQuery that it is a library that makes JavaScript suck less. While that's not the most delicate way of putting it, anyone who's struggled with getting things done on a browser with pure JavaScript will probably sympathize. jQuery is an enormously popular library that indeed makes it easier to find, select, and manipulate client-side elements in your web-based applications, as well as providing support for common AJAX operations, animation, and a rich plug-in ecosystem. jQuery works with most any application using HTML markup for its UI, and can be integrated with both ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC applications, for which jQuery support is provided out of the box with new MVC projects. And with jQueryUI, you can take advantage of common widgets to support tabbed and accordion UIs, and perform tasks such as drag and drop. In this session, we'll walk through the basics of jQuery, show how jQuery and ASP.NET can work together, and show off how you can combine ASP.NET databinding and jQuery UI to create rich interfaces with a minimum of fuss.

The WCF Data Services (a.k.a. ADO.NET Data Services or code name Astoria) framework consists of a combination of patterns and libraries that enable the creation and consumption of data services for the web. This is implemented in done in a standards based (OData) RESTful way serializing the data to JSON or AtomPub. In this talk we will introduce the WCF Data Services platform, talk about the basic underpinnings of the technology. Then we will build a simple Entity Framework Data Model and using WCF Data Services expose it to a simple web application. Some of the standard questions about a DotNetNuke site are often answered with a T-SQL Query: Why is my database so big? What table is the largest? How do you get a list of user’s properties? How many visitors came to my site yesterday? This presentation will focus on the various T-SQL commands that can help improve the day-to-day functionality of a DotNetNuke site. Using standard and free modules, the session will demonstrate helpful T-SQL queries that will answer common operational questions.
